Why Do You Need To Use Torque Wrench?
People have been using torque wrenches for many years to tighen the fastener. There are certain standard fasteners where required amount of torque is needed and depending upon the sizes of the fasteners the necessary torque wrench is chosen.
Why do you need a torque tool?
If you are driving a car or motorcycle then you must be aware that every bolts that are used needs correct amount of torque so that it can be rigidly fixed and does not get loosened due to vibration, when in motion. However it should not be tightend much beyond its capabity to withstand the force so that its thread may get damaged. Most of the bolts have specific amount of torque requirement, particularly those fitted in the engine. Many people use these torque tools for the safety of the vehicle as well as for the fastener.
Different types of torque wrenches used
Following are few different types of torque wrenches mostly found with the mechanics and technicians.
- Micrometer type
This is one of the most commonly used type of wrenches. There are number of advantages of this kind of wrench. It is a reversible kind of wrench where you can measure the torque for both direction i.e. while tightening as well as loosening the bolt. Their heads are usually rachet type. This type of wrench can be self reset – which means you need not necessarily remember to push the pin back in order to give signal to the mechanism. Due to this reason, more often such wrench may go out of calibration as compared to other types of wrench.
- Deflecting beam type
This type of wrench has been invented in Australia. It uses a metal beam instead of spring to measure the amount of torque. That means there is no part, which suffers wear and tear. Moreover, there is no need to reset tool after its use in order to prevent it from going out of caliberation. When the required torque is reached it gives visible as well as audible signals. Visible signal is useful if the tool is used in noisy environment.
However, there is one drawback with this tool. You will need to remember pushing the pin in the prime position for the next reading. In case you forget to do it then you will not get any signal. This type of torque wrenches are little expensive as compared to micrometer type of torque wrench.
